The Artisan Within You?

by Patrick Hearn

Creating a Thought Artisan is the challenge that faces us as we integrate innovation into our DNA. To start with the right mindset, creating the ability to drive entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship into the daily routine is no small task for anyone who is a leader of programs or a leader of ideas, or to a company. In short, innovation comes from the will to act upon your dreams.

As Randy Pausch stated in his last Lecture:  "It's not about how to achieve your dreams, it's about how to lead your life. If you lead your life the right way, the karma will take care of itself, the dreams will come to you.” As a Carnegie Mellon professor, Pausch had on a daily basis the physical and virtual environment to inject the innovation DNA.

My visit this week to Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh is a reminder of how this can be done at the foundational levels. From the creation of single degree programs that combine highly distinct disciplines from biology to fine arts; to the lecture hall where Albert Einstein gave his first lecture in the United States; to the Girls of Steel Institute sponsored by the CMU Robotics program.

The institution has taken the best of Silicon Valley and applied it in such a manner where innovation is leveraged by both innovation centers. An example is “reCAPTCHA”, developed in Carnegie Mellon and bought by Google. It is today the most used technologies to prove a person is not a robot while they are online; one of the many success stories in innovation and business.

At Holistic Innovations, a tip of the spear organization, we take the time to see in depth how locale and mindset can be channeled in such a way that accomplishes in real terms accelerating innovation. This right mindset can and must be created in as many geographies as possible. Our team and network focuses on how to do this. This is how you create an Artisan!!
